Secure Your Outdoor Furniture & Items

Lightweight items, such as your patio furniture, tables, chairs, firepits, outdoor lights, and more, will be subject to heavy damage and could possibly be picked up and strewn about, causing even more damage. You'll want to bring these items inside or tie them to something strong so they won't move during the storm.

Don't Drain Your Pool

Many people believe that by emptying their pool before a hurricane that it will prevent flooding. While that may be the case, an empty pool is subject to structural damage during the high hurricane winds and can even pop out of the ground. Our pool company in Lafayette recommends that you drain your pool by two feet so that there's room for rain to fill it.

Turn Off Power to Your Pool and Outdoor Areas

The electrical components of your pool can suffer heavy damage from the storm. Not only that, water and electricity just don't mix and can cause irreparable harm to animals and people. Remember to turn off the power to your pool, including the motor, pump, pool lighting, chlorinators, etc. You may even want to consider taking the motor out and replacing it once the hurricane has passed.

Prune Your Trees, Shrubs, and Bushes

Large tree branches can be swept up in a hurricane and also can be extremely damaging to people and animals during the storm. Flying debris can also cause severe damage to structures, such as breaking windows and damaging your roofing and siding. Bask Pools + Outdoors recommends that you prune any dead or overhanging branches from your trees, shrubs, and bushes ahead of time to reduce these hazards.
